October

October

By: RVH

October is when the earth brings forth

its glory, rich from summer’s warmth.

The crowning jewel of pleasant seasons,

giving thanks for all that’s come before.

The doors of fall thrown wide with welcome

summon all to wander about her halls.

Step into the waning days of October and

lend your heart to nature's chest

of brilliant, garnet treasures.

Through frosted glen and waxen fields,

step softly along gurgling river bends.

Before winter comes and nature steals,

the deepening hues still sheltering valleys and coppered hills.

While afternoon sun still finds it’s way

to melt the frozen places,

find October wherever you are and let it splash across your faces.

For if you look the other way and chance that it might linger,

October will have blown away into a brown November.
