Moab Spring

When desert rains bring life again,

and southern winds, warmth ushered in.

Awakes the arid desert winter’s sleep

and waterfalls flow fast and deep

Clear pools form in hallowed rocks,

Spring rushes in the red tailed hawk.

Desert Paintbrush blossoms red

while Claret Cup opens her prickly head.

Bright greens and yellows brighten canyon floors,

Mother earth renews her ancient shores,

The sands and rocks of nature’s past

awash with life so broad and vast.

Warbler’s, sparrows and Canyon Wren

sing sweetly as spring comes again.

Their songs echo off steep, jagged walls

dancing where the snowmelt falls.

The mountains, purple majesty

guards venerable hoodoos valiantly.

Sandstone cliffs rise high and tall,

the mighty Colorado flows, giving life to all.

Arches stand with delicate grace,

red rock canyons, nature’s perfect hiding place.

Sunshine stretches her pleasant fingers

warming rocks, where creatures linger.

Before the scorching heat of summer,

spring springs forth with glorious wonder.

The desert’s pulse beats with the new dawn

the bitter breath of winter’s clutch has gone.

Where warm winds may find you, there is relief.

Though spring lasts but shortly, gone like a thief.
